The Internet Writing Workshop is the best critique group on the
Net. Nearly every day one of its members posts an article on the
IWW blog about some aspect of the art of writing. Check it out,
and examine the archives.
The Blog World
More and more people are producing fascinating blogs. These belong to friends and acquaintances of mine.
Ruth Douillette writes memoirs, essays, and news stories for publishers, but in her blog she lets herself go and talks about her fifth-graders, aspects of her newspaper career, her children. She can wring my heart or bring me joy. She's also one of my two delightful partners in the task of administering the Practice group of the Internet Writing Workshop, and an associate editor of the IRB.
Bob Sanchez, author of When Pigs Fly, a hilarious, fast moving novel of weird predators chasing a lottery ticket that's in a funeral urn, keeps us up to date on the trials and triumphs of self-publishing.
He, too, is an assocate editor of the IRB.
Monideepa, who lives in Bangalore, India, writes short stories, but in her blog she writes about whatever moves her. She gives us
Americans a unique window into a culture most of us know nothing
at all about. And she lets us look at some fascinating pictures.
Bob Liter writes detective stories, but he also comments on politics
and occasionally posts a charming memoir about his childhood and youth.
Frances Mackay lives in Torrens Creek, Queensland, Australia (pop.
20 on a busy day), and writes about whatever amuses her--among
other things, her cats. She's a poet who is writing her memoirs.
Laura Jefferson is my daughter; she has degrees in classics and theology, but has two main loves--archaeology, and spinning and weaving. And then there are the cats. Why do I know so many cat lovers?
Dawn Goldsmith, a fine writer of essays, produces one every day. She's also telling us about her move to Florida, her weight-loss program, and whatever else catches her fancy.
Gary Presley, a fine essayist and long the revered administrator of the IWW Non-Fiction list, writes about whatever engages his attention--he discusses disability matters, writing, whatever he feels a need to talk about. I read what he says; it always matters. He's another assocaite on the IRB
Shayla Mollohan is a poet and artist, but she's also very much involved in feminism, global warming, peace--in short, she's a sensible woman, and I like sensible people.
Gayle Surrette edits three Internet publications, but finds the time to speculate on all sorts of scientific subjects.
Ann Hite tells us of her trials and triumphs as a writer, a woman, and a wife--and she has plenty of both.
